Picture Place Mats

Happy Late Birthday Dana!

These place mats were made purely out of love for my sister's birthday. Unfortunately her birthday was on Wednesday, and they have yet to make it to the post office.

This project was much more involved than I originally thought, probably because of all the strait lines I decided to use. To start I used a place mat of my own as a guide for cutting out the mats. Then I cut the clear vinyl about 1/2" bigger on both the top and side to allow for the ribbon placed around it.

First place and sew the picture windows.
Next I glued all of my ribbon embellishments down with some fabric glue.
After that, place the right sides of the mats facing it and then a layer of batting and pin together.
Sew the 3 pieces together, trim the corners and flip right side out. Lastly, I sewed a border stitch, which took care of the opening when I flipped them.

Stenciling the S on was done by printing out an S on card stock, cutting it out with an exacto knife, and pinning it in place. Its best to dab the paint on so it wont run. I touched up the edges afterwards with a little paint brush.

A couple ribbon rosettes and they were finished.

Memo & Picture Holder

What can you make with a piece of molding, ribbon, drapery hooks, and fabric scraps?? A memo holder of course!

This little gem is for my sister's b-day, so I hope she doesn't peek before I get it shipped! Its a simple project that you can customize how ever you wish, and is darn cheap too. It is definitely a nice change from bulletin boards, and the ribbon boards (although I like those as well).

Can't leave well enough alone

So the pillow cover I made last week was lacking something, at least to me. I made some fabric rosettes and leaves to hot glue onto the corner. Now it has a home on the guest bed where I will finally leave it alone.

Rosette Headbands

My two older sisters constantly spoil my little niece, so I figured I better send her something. I think the huge flower headbands are the cutest thing for little girls and I wanted to make her a version that is a little different. To make the actual flower I found a tutorial online and the best part is that you can make the whole thing without sewing...so break out that glue gun!

After making the flowers you can glue beads or buttons on for an extra touch...I was going for girly, so I had to include some beads. The last step was to attach a snap clip on the back so that my sister could change out the rosettes. I covered the clip with felt just to make it more comfortable on her head. And that's that! Now she has some cute girly headbands to wear with all of her cute outfits!

As of right now I have no baby's head to model the headbands on, so I decided that this candle would do just fine. It loved the spotlight.
