Completely Free Spring Wreath

I finally got around to taking our Christmas wreath down, mainly because I was terrified that our HOA would ticket me for having a Christmas decoration up in March! The Christmas wreath was from my floral design class and was made mostly with greens wired to a metal wreath form. I took all of the greens off because I figured I could use the metal form later.

My original plan was to make a grocery bag wreath, but less than half way through I decided it wasn't for me. I finished off the rest of the wreath by weaving scrap material through the wire frame. For a finishing touch I added the bow and a couple of flowers made from paper towel rolls. All in all it was a completely FREE wreath for spring. Doesn't get much better than that!

Vintage Brooch Headband

For my wedding, (over 2 years ago) I made this hair piece to wear with my veil for my "something old." It is my grandmother's brooch from the 1940's. I had yet to wear it since the wedding because it was stored in a box that just sat on my dresser collecting dust.

Then I spotted some vintage gold and feather bobby pins at a local boutique and took that idea and ran with it. I grabbed a dollar store headband and wrapped it in ribbon. I then used a pack of feathers and added a few directly to the headband. After those were in place I gathered ribbon and fabric to make a spot to pin the brooch. I originally didn't plan on adding feathers on top the ribbon, but I felt like it needed something more. I just love the vintage look of headband, and how the neutral colors lend itself well to almost any outfit. I have already worn it a few times!

Please ignore the ratty hair, must have been a rough day.

Buttoned Belt

Remember this little beauty? Well when I chopped off the bottom I salvaged the scraps to make a belt. I hate waist seams...they needed to be covered.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics for a tutorial, but here is a quick rundown. I shaped the belt with a little flare at the end and had in mind that I wanted it to pull the belt through itself, fold and button. I sewed some medium weight facing to the wrong sides of the belt pieces and then flipped it all right side out. At this point I decided to put a stitch 1/4" in all the way around for a more finished look. Last were the two button holes...my FIRST 2 button holes to be exact! One to pull the belt through and the other for the actual button. Sewed the button on and all done!

I'll be linking up to some of these great blogs...you should too!

Picture Frame Wreath

So wreaths really aren't my thing. I find most of the wreaths out in blogland really cute and would love one of my own, but we it comes to me actually taking the time to make one...pass. Until... I found this blog on wreaths. She made it really simple, a picture frame and ribbon. Now that I can handle. The wheels in my head started spinning. I loved the non-traditional square wreath and decided to finally make a wreath of my own. My front door is looking pretty boring and needed some color anyways.

So I went from this beauty,

Added a little paint, scrapbook paper, ribbon, and fabric and ended up with this.

Light Fixture to Candle Holder

I thought it would be a waste to toss a perfectly good light fixture, so after taking it down I thought it might make a pretty good candle holder. First I cleaned and sanded all of the metal pieces so that the spray paint would stick better. Next I gave it a couple coats of oil rubbed bronze spray paint. I flipped over the light bulb holders so that the spiky parts inside stuck up and hot glued them to the base. After the fact I realized that epoxy would have probably worked better. But the glue will do. It needed something extra so I added ribbon to each edge, and...ta-da...brand new candle holder!
